Curbside Organic Waste Pilot Project Coming to Regina

City Council has approved moving forward with a pilot project prior to implementing
a year-round curbside organic (food and yard) waste collection and processing
service. Organic waste makes up about 50 per cent of residential waste and is a
resource that can be used to make valuable products like nutrient-rich compost and
energy

Prairie View Community Association Chairperson’s Report for 2017/18

My name is Daren Drummond and I am the Chairperson for the CA.  This past year has been very exciting for our association.

First, we successfully ran our first Fall Trade Show in November 2017.  We had over 45 vendors present and the show was attended by over 400 residents.  It saw us partner with McLurg School and Teddy Bear’s Anonymous, the latter we were able to raise $1300 for.  Our vendors, many of whom will be returning for the 2018 show (Saturday, November 17th 10am – 4pm at McLurg School) also gave us exceptional feedback.

Secondly, we have entered the discussion phase with the City of Regina regarding a new fitness park.  The Murphy Park Fitness Trail is being sponsored by one of our own residents and we are pursuing additional funding with the City of Regina.  If we are successful, we will be actively fundraising to see this exciting new addition to our community become a reality.  We will keep you posted via Facebook and our website.

We have gained a new Children’s and Adult Programmer, Megan Wiwcharuk has joined our CA and she has started to offer some new and exciting programs and instructors this fall!  We also have a new sign coordinator, Riley Nadoroznik.  He is also the community member who has offered to donate cash for the new Fitness Trail and he will be fundraising in the community as well.

We have also concluded our partnership with the McLurg School Playground Enhancement group.  McLurg School delivered our Fall newsletter as a fundraiser and we successfully partnered with them on some City of Regina grant applications.  We’ve also joined forces with St. Josaphat School and they will be assisting with our next newsletter delivery.

This year looks very exciting and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead!

Regina Public Library opens new Digital Media Studio

Regina Public Library has taken another leap towards becoming the library of the future with the opening of a one-of-a-kind Digital Media Studio, offering the Regina community unprecedented access to cutting-edge tech.

The Digital Media Studio is an interactive space with specialized hardware, equipment, and software that gives library customers the opportunity to explore, collaborate, and learn about digital media, and create professional quality audio and video productions.

Located on the ground floor of Central Library, the studio was launched on March 8 and opened to the public on March 12. Access to the equipment can be pre-booked, but walk-ins will also be accommodated as much as possible.

The equipment includes an 8’ x 16’ WhisperRoomTM sound isolation chamber equipped with a full sound recording studio, and a selection of in-house musical instruments.

The studio also includes a green screen and video recording equipment, enabling customers to capture raw video footage, and edit it, using professional quality software on one of four high-end post production multimedia computer workstations.

“Digital Media plays an increasingly important role in modern society, but for many, access to digital technology can be difficult,” says Sean Quinlan, Chairman of RPL’s Board of Directors. “With this Digital Media Studio, we are making this technology freely accessible and offering expert guidance to help our customers learn how to use it. We hope this space will create opportunities for anyone with the passion and willingness to explore and experiment.”
