Regina Public Library opens new Digital Media Studio

Regina Public Library has taken another leap towards becoming the library of the future with the opening of a one-of-a-kind Digital Media Studio, offering the Regina community unprecedented access to cutting-edge tech.

The Digital Media Studio is an interactive space with specialized hardware, equipment, and software that gives library customers the opportunity to explore, collaborate, and learn about digital media, and create professional quality audio and video productions.

Located on the ground floor of Central Library, the studio was launched on March 8 and opened to the public on March 12. Access to the equipment can be pre-booked, but walk-ins will also be accommodated as much as possible.

The equipment includes an 8’ x 16’ WhisperRoomTM sound isolation chamber equipped with a full sound recording studio, and a selection of in-house musical instruments.

The studio also includes a green screen and video recording equipment, enabling customers to capture raw video footage, and edit it, using professional quality software on one of four high-end post production multimedia computer workstations.

“Digital Media plays an increasingly important role in modern society, but for many, access to digital technology can be difficult,” says Sean Quinlan, Chairman of RPL’s Board of Directors. “With this Digital Media Studio, we are making this technology freely accessible and offering expert guidance to help our customers learn how to use it. We hope this space will create opportunities for anyone with the passion and willingness to explore and experiment.”
