RPL: Unique New Library Program Pairs Books With Music

Unique new library program pairs books with music Regina Public Library (RPL) and the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) have partnered to present an exciting new program at RPL’s George Bothwell Branch this Thursday, June 22 from 7:00 to 8:30pm.

“We wanted to do something really fun and different to launch our summer reading contest for teens and adults this year,” said Megan McCormick, RPL Events Coordinator.

Developed with the idea of wine and food pairings in mind, the Sounds of Summer Reading event will match book recommendations from the library with music selected — and performed live — by Gordon Gerrard, RSO Music Director and Conductor.

“Live music is a big part of summer in Regina. Partnering with the RSO gave us an opportunity to connect book and music lovers, to celebrate summer reading in a new way,” said McCormick. In addition to piano performances by Gerrard, attendees will enjoy frozen yogurt and browse book displays featuring recommendations for “Easy Breezy”, “Dark and Stormy” and other themed summer reading materials.

Registration is not required for the free program, which is open to teens and adults. The event will also launch RPL’s Sounds of Summer Reading Contest.

The online contest begins June 22 and runs through August 31, offering readers a chance to enter draws for a variety of prizes, including: tickets to the Regina Symphony Orchestra, the Globe Theatre, and a Saskatchewan Roughriders football game; car detailing, spa, and movie gift packages, and an SJCAM Elite Action Camera.
